Spring Break In Texas

Does anyone else have their kids on Spring Break this week? In Texas it seems that every public school and every university is off.
We live close to South Padre Island and the beaches are packed! Since we have a grade school student we are sticking to the parks close to home.
Does anyone else go on a "Spring Break" or is this just a Texas/U.S.A. event?
