A Very Freakstarr Christmas

Last week my husband played a show with his band Freakstarr. They played at a place called "The Office". This is a very small bar in our town of Kingsville. I think it has a maxim of 100 people that could fit in there safely. Okay, so I really don't know how many people could fit in there but let's just say that it is really small rectangle shape place with a very low ceiling.  Be prepared to smell like a chimney when you leave since they do allow smoking indoors.

This is the kind of place that the college kids go to on a Thursday night to sing karaoke and the bikers go have a cold beer after work. The place has poor lighting, pool, darts, and live music on the weekends so naturally this was the perfect place to have a Christmas show in our area.

I have attached a short video of the band Freakstarr. This unedited, less then 2 minute video was made on December 22, 2012.  I am not sure when they wrote this jam song. It may have been sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's since that is when we were in college.

The link is below if you can't see the video.

Angels From Newtown, CT

As a self proclaimed news reporter of our area my comments about an event that happens locally or nationally are usually posted right away. However, last Friday’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT had me thinking twice about this blog post. As a former substitute teacher and a mother of an 8 year old this was something that I could not expect to happen. Honestly, who goes into a school to hurt unarmed teachers and children? This question still lingers and it will be one that we may never have the answers to.

According to the Associated Press there is a rush to make changes in the way guns are brought, sold and distrubite in the U.S.
"The White House see some urgency in formulating a policy response to the shooting...The incident has prompted several congressional gun rights supporters to consider new legislation to control firearams, and there is some fear that their willingness to engage could fade as the shock and sorrow over the Newtown shooting eases." Associated Press-U.S. Governments responds to shootings
The article goes on to say that there is no specific on how to control the gun laws but a change should be made. In response to the White House the National Rifle Association has responded sending out this press release.
“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters –- and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting. The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again. The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21."  Huffington Post Article-NRA Responds
In my opinion we as a nation need to start teaching our children how to cope in this cruel world. The world is an evil place and we need to teach our children how to be safe. I don’t think tougher gun laws will help us with this problem. Criminals don’t follow the rules. Tougher gun laws would just create more criminal out of law abiding citizen. It is foolish of us as Americans to think a change in the law would help protect more people and this would not happen again. Unfortunately this will happen again because this is a fallen and cruel world.
