Say Y-E-S !

This week we have been helping out with Vacation Bible School. (VBS). I don't think we are really helping because we are both doing something we love. I am taking the videos of the kids and my husband is helping the teens with the VBS Band. It is a lot of fun to watch the children interact with the VBS Band and VBS Dancers. Most of the songs have movements and the kids try to copy the VBS Dancers.  It is so cute! We hope to post some of the highlights of this by next week. For now here is a video that the youth minster of First Baptist Church-Kingsville, Michael Gleason made.

One of the things that I will need to work on is how to blur out faces that can not be posted on the Internet. This will be a tough challenge for me since I don't know how to do it yet. It would be easier to cut them out and not use any of the footage that they are in but I may want to show what the other people are doing around them. We shall see my progress next week!

ALL RIGHT RESERVED WITHOUT PREJUDICE-UCC 1-103 and 1-108

Recently several of my Facebook friends started to copy and paste a message that says that they do not give permission to Facebook to use their data in any way shape or form without their permission first.

I am not sure how this started but the notice starts like this:

"…Facebook is now a publicly traded entity. Unless you state otherwise, anyone can infringe on your right to privacy once you post to this site…”

It goes on to say

…you do NOT have permission to utilize any of my profile information nor any of the content contained herein including, but not limited to my photos and/or the comments made about photos or any other “picture” art posted on my profile…”

At the end of the notice you will see this posted

UCC 1-103 1-108 ALL RIGHT RESERVED WITHOUT PREJUDICE”

Just to be clear when you join Facebook you agree to the legal terms and conditions that were set up.  Facebook says that you do own all of the content and information you post on Facebook and you can control how it is shared through your privacy settings.

However, when it comes to photos and videos you give Facebook permission (according to your privacy settings) that Facebook can use any IP content that you post on or in connections with Facebook. This means when you comment on a photo or post a photo while using Facebook they have a right to that photo or video.

For a complete list of terms and policies (as of April 2011) the following websites are available.

The legal tag at the end of the message according to Cornell University is the Uniform Commercial Code. This code is about fraud and misrepresentation of any laws between two people/ parties. http://www.law.cornell.edu/ucc/1/1-103.html, http://www.law.cornell.edu/ucc/1/1-108.html

As you can see Facebook does have a right to your photos and videos and can use them as needed.

I hope this article helps you in your research about Facebook and privacy settings in general. Of course this is just based on the research that I have done and I could be wrong. If you find out something different please let me know.

Realms of an Open Mind

Realms of an Open Mind is a great blog to view before you set out to read your next novel. The blogger, Keely Mahaffey gives book reviews in a clear and well written way. (Unlike me who just rambles on and on.)
I love the way she writes. It's like reading a letter from a trusted friend who would tell you the inside scoop about about life. Personally I have found this to be helpful before reading a book.
Click on the link below to view this blog.
Keely is currently writing a book of her own. I am not sure what the title of it will be but I know I will be one of the first people in line to order it. According to her web site it is "about a women who loses the world she knows and the person she loves and how she finds the strength and the ability to survive her guilt."
Wow! I can't wait for it to come out.
Happy Reading
